“At Sparrow, everything we do expresses our commitment to achieve the best health outcomes possible for all the communities and people we serve.”
Throughout 2016, Sparrow achieved key milestones consistent with our mission, vision, values and the Sparrow Way. People rely on us to be here for them on a 24/7/365 basis. We have consistently adapted and changed to meet the growing need for our services since March 18, 1896. Throughout our existence, we have proudly served all regardless of ability to pay. However, one of the major challenges in 2017 for America’s hospitals, and Sparrow, is to continue providing timely access for all. We are doing our best to ensure greater access through the development of new facilities, the growth of our network of community-based Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers, new collaborations that stretch across the entire state, and investments in information technology connections with Patients and other Providers.
While access to care remains a major focus area in 2017, our System’s effectiveness and fundamental value proposition are ultimately based on recruiting, retaining and supporting skillful, talented and compassionate Physicians, Caregivers and Volunteers. Sparrow is fortunate and honored to have Physicians, Nurses, Therapists, Pharmacists, Technologists, other Caregivers and Volunteers whose expertise, dedication and commitment to excellence enable us to deliver superb care in the Sparrow Way. Through the efforts of each member of our team, Sparrow consistently raises the bar on what it means to deliver quality health care and memorable Patient experiences.
The healthcare landscape is constantly changing. Therefore, we are unrelenting in our pursuit of new ways to help Physicians and Nurses manage and coordinate the delivery of care across the entire continuum of services. The Sparrow Care Network (SCN), a partnership with over 600 Physicians, is leading the way by improving the quality of healthcare services while enhancing value, through more than 100 quality enhancement initiatives.
In 2016, Sparrow expanded access to primary care services by adding new Sparrow Medical Group (SMG) practices and Meijer-based FastCare clinics. Highlights of the year also include the formalization of our long-standing affiliation with Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, as a key part of our collaborative regional approach to community health improvement across Eaton County.
Along Lansing’s Michigan Avenue, the new Herbert-Herman Cancer Center and Plaza Building will open in mid-2017 to provide Patient-centered and Family-friendly access to our multi-specialty teams and the latest diagnostic and treatment options. Nearby, the new Sparrow Health Center Lansing at 2909 E. Grand River provides Laboratory, Endoscopy, Diagnostic Imaging, Senior Care and Primary Care services. In addition, to further promote and facilitate team medicine, we established the new Gathering Place at Sparrow for the benefit of our Patients, Physicians, Caregivers, Volunteers, Visitors and Guests.
Sparrow is making great strides in enhancing Patient safety by investing in evidence-based best practices and processes, to achieve our quality outcome targets. We are committed to our on-going journey to be formally recognized as a High Reliability Organization and we are working with the Michigan Health & Hospital Association and The Joint Commission’s Center for Care Transformation to utilize the latest safety and quality guidelines, tactics and techniques.
As we move forward, together, in 2017, we are confident about our collective ability to meet every new challenge while ensuring that people can always count on us for quality, compassionate care.
