“Sparrow is helping transform the future of healthcare for mid-Michigan for the benefit of everyone we are privileged to care for and serve.”
Throughout 2015, Sparrow continued to be a leader in providing quality, compassionate healthcare for people across mid-Michigan. We have steadily expanded services, developed new facilities, introduced innovations at the point of care and established new collaborations with like-minded organizations. We did so to improve the health of the region and to respond to the needs and expectations of our Patients.
Our clinical leadership and expertise is personified in the drive, dedication, and vision of Sparrow Physicians who form a medical staff of more than 950 members. Each day, Sparrow relies on the tireless commitment to excellence of talented Physicians. Our Medical Staff inspires more than 8,000 Caregivers and Volunteers. Together, the overall team embodies the true spirit of the Sparrow Way.
Sparrow Medical Group (SMG) continues to expand its regional presence, with a growing number of Physician practices which partner with us to provide Patient-centered care as close to home as possible. Sparrow Physician offices are conveniently located throughout mid-Michigan for primary and specialty care.
Our Sparrow Care Network (SCN), a partnership with over 600 Physicians, is improving the quality of health care services while enhancing value as Physicians manage and coordinate care across the continuum of services. The Sparrow Care Network has established more than 140 quality initiatives to help maintain and enhance Sparrow’s reputation for providing access to the best possible care.
Sparrow’s mission also led us to form a clinically integrated network with six leading health systems throughout Michigan to provide health plan choices and population health management services across the state. Additional health systems are also seeking to join our Federation. This Physician-led, data-driven approach to sharing best practices is helping member organizations reduce variations in care, lower total healthcare costs, and improve the health of Patients and communities.
In 2015, many well-planned and highly anticipated facility projects progressed to the construction phase. Slated for completion in early 2017, the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center Plaza is already attracting attention along Michigan Avenue and will ultimately offer timely and convenient access to Radiation, Medical and Surgical Oncologists in a Patient-and-Family- centered environment. In addition, we are building the new Gathering Place, offering a modern meeting and dining experience for our team, our Patients, visitors and the community on Sparrow’s main campus. We also broke ground on the Sparrow Health Center-Lansing facility to expand access to primary care, senior health, endoscopy and diagnostic services. By the end of 2016, we will also have four Sparrow FastCares to enhance timely, affordable access to care. Lastly, the Sparrow Tower became the new home for Sparrow Specialty Hospital in 2015.
Sparrow continues to advance in technology as well as facilities. For example, we celebrated the dedication of a new Cardiac and Neuroscience Interventional Suite to precisely diagnose and treat Patients with coronary artery disease, stroke and cancer. We also introduced 3D mammography technology.
Our partnerships are stronger than ever. As the official health system of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), we are, together, focused on the health of student-athletes. We are also collaborating with Michigan State University regarding a new Sports Medicine practice. In addition, Sparrow’s membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network provides access to Mayo Clinic resources that complement our Physicians’ expertise. Mayo experts conducted public forums in 2015 focused on topics ranging from lung cancer to genetics.
Lastly, we are honored to work in conjunction with Michigan State University to support the Sparrow/MSU Center for Innovation and Research, which funds research related to transforming health care delivery at the point of care while working to achieve and sustain benchmark-level outcomes.
This annual report letter offers a mere glimpse into the countless ways Sparrow is leading the way to better healthcare, a finer care experience and an improved cost of care for mid-Michigan. We are extremely optimistic about the future because of our outstanding Physicians, Nurses, Staff, Volunteers and the community leaders who serve as Board Members. We are honored and privileged to serve people throughout our expanding service area. Thank you for your continued trust, support and loyalty.
